Here’s what the module covers:
Introduction to Compression

This section gives you a good foundation on which to understand the various topics covered in detail throughout the course.
Introduction to the following topics:
- Why and when do you need to use compression
- The three key things compression is used for in a mix
- Upward downward compression)
- The three phases of a sound and how compression can affect each of them
Types of Compression

You will learn the differences between these, the unique properties of each and why you would each of them for different mixing tasks.
We look in detail at the three main types of compression:
- FET
- Optical
- Vari Mu
- VCA them
Compression Controls 1 – The detector

You will learn how the detector of a compressor works, how it controls the character of the compressor.
This module covers:
- Detector circuit
- Side chaining
- Peak vs RMS detection
Compression Controls 2 – Threshold and Knee

You get a full understanding of how threshold and knee work and why they are important tools achieving different mixing tasks.
This module covers:
- What the threshold is
- How setting threshold differently can radically change what the compressor does
- What the compression knee is
- How knee works, why it’s important, and what it can be used for
Compression Controls 3 – Ratio, Attack, Release

You will learn what these primary controls do, and how you can use them to shape the character and tone of instruments and your entire mix.
This module covers:
- Ratio
- Attack
- Release
Compression Types on Vocals

You will learn how to use compression on vocals and how it can be used to bring out all the best aspects of a singer’s voice. We look at the different effects different the types of compression (FET, Optical, Vari Mu and VCA) have on a vocal. You’ll learn how these compressors can be used in combination to make a vocal sit perfectly in a mix revealing all the tone and detail of the singer’s voice.
Compression Types on drums

You will learn how to use compression on drums. We concentrate on snare to understand in detail how different types of compressors (FET, Optical, Vari Mu, VCA and others) can be used to do everything from giving your drums a smooth expensive sound to creating real smack and punch. You will also learn how to use compression to bring out or accentuate the groove in your drums.
This module gives you everything you need to know to master compression and bring your mixing to the next level. Buy it here now.
